About Arlene
It's hard to pinpoint the exact moment in time that my passion for photography really began, it's been there for as long as I can remember. It wasn't until entering a local competition and winning, that I begin to think maybe my passion could be something more? With loving encouragement from my husband I decided to apply for a job at one of Halifax's premier portrait studios. I didn't see how I could possibly get the job with no experience and little more than my portfolio to recommend me. Much to my surprise however, it was enough, they hired me on the spot. I learned a great deal in my short time there and would have stayed longer if complications in my pregnancy hadn't forced the doctor to put me off work. As difficult as it was to walk away from a dream realized, I knew my baby was much more important! And after the birth of our beautiful son, my husband once again encouraged me to chase the dream. AEPortraits began informally in 2006 all because my husband had the faith in me, and the love to push me forward. We registered the business in 2010 when our son started school and I could focus a little more time on it. Thank you husband for your devotion and support! You have given me the chance to be a photographer on my own terms, and still be a stay at home mom!!!
